The history of this thing we call ZTNB
For years my friends and I had always talked about getting together to play music, form bands, write songs together, play songs together, record, etc. We had some success for short periods of time here and there, but our ADD and responsibilities would usually put a stop to it at some point.

ZTNB was probably going to end the same, but we do always continue to try. In October 2002 I (Robert Steel) was working along side my friend (Troy Thibodeaux) and often we would e-mail things back and fourth, music we like, new stuff we'd recorded, etc. Some time that month something struck me. I had put on a couple of house concerts and really dug the vibe of a house concert. I have a PA, plenty of equipment and even a stage. Let's invite musicians to get together once a month to play a live show, we could sit in on others sets, work out stuff together, just watch someone play, play our own sets or whatever. It'll be fun.

I e-mailed Troy the idea and he took to it immediately. I even gave him the title ZTNB (Zero to None Bunch). We then brought Robbie Wilson in on the idea and we decided with just the three of us, we'd go ahead and get started. We scheduled our first one in December. True to our fashion we cancelled the first one because we all couldn't make it. We moved it a couple of weeks away and the three of us got together and basically each played sets of songs to a crowd of two. It's pathetic but it was a blast, because it's cool just hanging with friends and playing music. Shortly thereafter Doug Duhon and Neil Brinks were invited to come out and sit in or play sets of there own, whatever they want to do. Doug came out with tablas, and his recording gear. Neil came with a bass and a guitar.

Neil played a set of songs and Doug jammed with the four of us while we played our sets. It was a damn good time. All of us knew of each other but some of us hadn't met. We quickly bonded and decided the 5 of us would be the original core of what ZTNB would come to be. Since then we've had many guests sit in, play sets and it has become as much a gathering of family as it has been about music. Almost 5 years later here we are, each month playing to a crowd of friends and our families and just making a great time of it.
